I started painting way back in 1977 or 1978. Painted for a couple of years then did not paint for a long time. But 4 or 5 years ago I got started again with the water based Cameo and I love it. I do not get to paint very often because I work and go to college. Painting is a great stress release for me. I can sit and paint for hours on end. One thing that I do is use the recommended color and then I add. I start with the recommended color then I may use up to 6 to 10 other colors to do the shadowing and aging of an item. One suggestion that I would make is to use magazines with pictures of whatever you are painting and use it as a guide to get your shadows and coloring. When I start a new project I pull out my magazines and get as many different pictures of what I'm painting and refer to them.

Proud Hunter I tried to make him as three dimensional as I could. In his boot I even used wine, lemon and pink as well as all the tans and browns. |
Watermill This was the first project I did when I got back into painting. Notice I use a lot of colors. The shoot where the water goes to the water wheel even has green in it. |
Eagle with the Stars & Stripes Believe you me I have the magazines down for this one. I even went out and watched the flag at different times of the day and with different wind speeds to see how it looked to get how I was going to do my shadows. You don't have to do these things but, well -- I do. |
Lighthouse I'm working on this project. It is another example of how many different colors I use. |
Lighthouse I can't leave anything alone. The sky where the birdsare did not have any clouds. Well, I think I put to many but my Mom said that I didn't and since this was painted for her -- Mom knows best. |
Hummingbirds I pulled out a lot of magazines with hummingbirds and flowers to do this one. Birds and Bloom Magazine is a good source. |
Dolphins I filled the Dolphins in one at a time and then used a small flat paint brush (the bristles cut down to about a 1/4 of an inch long). When I had one Dolphin painted I took lighter and darker colors and lightly brushed the Dolphin as I imaged they looked with sunlight hitting them jumping out of the water. I even used Seafoam Green on one of the Dolphins to make it different than the other. I used Seafoam Green in the water splashes also. |
Carousal Horse My favorite thing about this is the Bow and Ribbon. Notice how using the light color in the center of the ribbon and using the dark colors in the bow gives depth and keeps it from looking flat. |
