Ginger and John Welcome You to Ginger's Cameo, Manufacturing Home Office of Cameo Paints

Newsletter
January 2009

HELLO ALL YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE!

First I want to thank all of you who sent notes and cards during the holidays. John and I really enjoyed them.

Let's see - I certainly want to mention the weather. Oh my gosh!! I can't believe the weather - everywhere. Our weather has been just everything-following everything, following.well, you understand. I know that most of you have had just really weird weather too. If you go south from Michigan, it gets colder and they have more snow most of the time lately. Then there was the two snowstorms that followed each other a couple of days apart - then Ice - then an almost complete thaw - then ice - then who knows what's going to happen next. The weather folks were absolutely right and on time with some of the storms - then they are so far off that you just want to ignore everything they say. Then the next time they are right again. It's getting so you don't know whether to believe them or not. I guess it's better to be prepared than to take a chance that what they're saying might be right. What's a person to do?

I need to let you know that the Office will be closed from Feb. 21, 2009 thru Feb. 28, 2009. John and I need to take some time to go see our Vendors and see if we can set up some new things for you. It's, also, nice to be able to put faces to the voices on the phone.

Now to tell you of a change:

Now - as I told you in the last newsletter - the price of the paint is going up to $3.19. This takes effect when you receive this newsletter. Those of you who have gotten an order in before this will pay the old prices.

I'm enclosing a copy of the 'kit pages' so you will have them to show to your customers or just to put in your own catalog (replacing the old 'kit pages').

I will be cleaning out my 'Mailings' file in January, so if you haven't ordered in the last year be sure to get an order in during January. In order to get the mailed newsletters you must have an order in at least once a year to help cover the cost of

This is, also, a good time to change from being on the 'mailing list' to being on the 'e-mail list'. The folks on the e-mail list get their newsletters as soon as they are written. They don't have to wait for me to copy them, put them together, get postage on them and then wait for the mail to get to their homes.

There is one other price increase and that is on the 12-piece quilt block sets. Those are going up to $30.00. This brings them up in place with the rest of the quilt block sets. Only the 12-piece quilts are going up.

Class News

We will be working on the Wild Deer Quilt Block -01 at this workshop. I am using some old techniques and a new 'brush' technique on this block. I think it will be interesting to see how everyone likes it. *I want to thank Rene McDonough for trying to teach this technique to me over the 'phone one day. I'm sure I'm not using it the way it's supposed to be used - but I sure like the way it turned out. It's a takeoff on 'one stroke painting' and Rene was actually using this technique to do the Old Fashioned Snowman Quilt. She said it was a really fast way to do the snowmen.

You use a brush for this technique. Put down two different colors on your Mini Palette - dip the top of your brush in one color - then dip the bottom of your brush in the other color. What happens is you're putting two different colors down in one stroke of the brush. Then you take it from there to get the finished product looking like you want it to. If you look at the clouds in the Wild Deer Quilt Block scene, you can see where I used something like that technique to get my stormy clouds.

So for the workshop you will need your paints and your brushes. Of course, I also used a little 'rag painting' on the trees and bushes. (I have plenty of rags here.) I used my trusty toothbrush to get the rain coming down out of the clouds. (Once I figured out what to use where -it went pretty quickly.)

January 15, 2009 - Workshop here at the office - 11:00AM & 7:00PM

Monthly Quilt Clubs

There are three (3) different Quilt Block Sets for this year. These will come out at the rate of one per month until the end of the year. You will be able to buy back ones - but not forward ones.

You will need to sign up with your instructor for the ones that you want to take.

This is so she or he knows how many of each to order for the month. You will be signing up to take all twelve (12) of the quilt blocks that are in the set that you sign up for.

Your instructor will let you know what paints and accessories you need for each class - plus you will need the Quilt block packet (includes the transfer and one (1) quilt block).

We're going to start off with three (3) quilts for the quilt blocks of the month.

The first quilt will be "Butterfly & Flowers Quilt". You will order it under B&F.;

The second quilt is "Wild Animal Quilt". You will order under WAQ.

The third quilt is "Wild Deer Quilt". (Candlelight) You will order it under WDQ.

An explanation of the Quilt Block Clubs:

We have a lot of instructors out in the field that have pretty much quit instructing and others who are new and don't quite know how to get started. I thought this would help both sides. The quilt blocks come out once a month. I thought this would give you a built-in class session, or sessions, that you could do each month. Each set teaches different things. At the end of the classes the students don't have to sew and quilt these into a quilt, they can put two (2) together and have a two-sided throw pillow. They can use each one individually and put a plain quilt block on the back and make a throw pillow. They can sew all the blocks together at the end of the year, put a piece of blanket material on the back and use yarn to tie it together as a throw for the back of the couch or for use in the car for trips. You could also frame the finished product with a wooden hoop or a regular frame. (You can pick up lots of frames in yard sales.) Just use your imagination on what to use the finished products for. The transfers are all great for putting on a shirt, also. You can use the quilt block to learn on - then put the transfers on shirts or pillowcases.

I know that some of you are not into quilting, but you like the sets of transfers.

Here are some things that you could do:

Instead of quilts you can make throw pillows with a different design on each side. That would give you six (6) different throw pillows. If you want to make twelve different throw pillows - or six - or nine -you just need to order extra sets of blank quilt blocks (P601-$5.25) to use for the back..

Instead of using the transfers on quilt blocks you can put the designs on shirts, flour sack towels (P327), mini flags (P322), tablecloths (P1220, P1221, P1222, P1223), a Wallhanging (P324), dresser scarves (P326), placemats (P1289), tote bags (P1492), pillow cases (P1595), pants, skirts, jackets. There are just so many different ways to use the transfers.

I like to put several designs on a single shirt. I buy men's shirts at yard sales and then I make it into a theme shirt. I might make a unicorn shirt, or a shirt of flower faces. I have a Christmas shirt with many different designs on it. How about a snowman outfit on a sweat suit?

There are just sooo many ways to use the Quilt Paks it boggles the mind.

Transfer News

I am going to discontinue an old transfer T4675 I have been wondering what to do with this transfer. I think the thing to do is to discontinue it and bring in another 'feather' transfer next year. This has definitely not been a big seller. I have tried to re-do it, but nothing looks just right. I like the idea of having a 'feather' transfer that you can use alone or with other designs and this one just doesn't do it for me and apparently not for you folks either. I have none left and the only ones that have ordered it are ones that keep a complete line of transfers on hand to sell to customers. If any of you have any ideas on this just let me know. I can use all the help that I can get. (I know that you all know that by now.)

This month we have 6 New Transfers

Transfer #T4777

T4783 -Amaryllis

T4783 Amaryllis

This is a wonderful transfer to put on a throw pillow to remember those wonderful huge flowers that folks Give as gifts for the Holidays. You can ignore the Directions and paint it in your favorite amaryllis colors. There are a lot of different color combinations out there today.

Be sure to order a Throw Pillow Cover (P1482).

T4784 - Cowgirl & Cowboy

How about a couple of ideas for the kids. Do you know a few young'uns that are in love with horses and anything to do with horses? Here are two (2) perfect transfers for them. You get both transfers for the price of one.

These will, also, do a double sided Throw Pillow Cover (P1482) or two (2) Covers.

Final Words

I’ve been trying to hold down the price on shipping – but now I’m starting to lose money on it and prices are going up at the Post Office starting May 14th. (Prices at other shipping places have already gone up.) The increases they are talking about, on top of what I was already losing, means that starting May 1st, 2007 my shipping prices are going to go up.

Remember that shipping is figured on your retail total before your discount.

If you think I should give you a lower shipping amount on your order because it is a small order, you can call and we might be able to adjust it some. No promises though. I’m not in the business of making money on shipping, but sometimes the small orders are what off-set the big orders.

Well, I guess that's all for this month. Keep that those suggestions coming. I need every one of them. See you at a meeting.
