August 2008

HELLO ALL YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE!

We Accept PayPal!

I’m going to set up the Monroe County Fair, in Michigan, on Friday, July 25th. The fair ends on Sunday August 3rd. I will be in and out of the office during that time. The orders will be going out; they just might be a little off on time. I try to get all orders out with one – two days. It might take a little longer while I’m at the fair – like probably they will go out Monday the 4th. (I want to thank Lori for working Monroe Fair today and tomorrow so I can get the newsletter out and catch up on orders that came in over the weekend and Monday and Tuesday.)

Don’t forget – the office is closed every year around Labor Day. That’s when we have our family re-union. We will shut down the office at the end of the day on August 28th and open back up on September 8th. We will probably be back on the week-end to start getting orders ready to go out on Monday.

It has been an interesting summer. The weather in Michigan has been fairly cool most of the time. I don’t know if we are going to pay for this later in the summer and early fall – but I have been enjoying the heck out of it while it is happening. I really do like cooler weather. We have had so much rain that you can hear the lawn growing and all the flowers in the flower beds screaming and yelling for joy.

I have a rainbow bed. I dug it out of the side of a low hill in our lawn. It has three levels that are eight feet long for each color. I have beds that are green, pink, purple, red, white, blue, yellow, orange and black. I’m slowly getting perennials planted in all of the beds.

The hardest one to find plants for is the blue beds. Did you know that when you’re talking about flowering plants that when the say ‘blue’ they actually mean purple most of the time? I have to buy plants for that area that have already bloomed so that I know which color the flowers actually are. Actual ‘blue’ flowers are hard to find.

You would think that an easy one would be the ‘red’ beds – but flowers that are called red can be anything from a deep burgundy to violet. There are ‘red Flocks out there. I was so excited! When they bloomed they were actually violet. Darn!

Ah, well. The beds are gradually looking better and better. When I need to relax I go out and play in the dirt. Weeding is a great time to think and plan.

I have come up with some very interesting ideas while working in the gardens or riding my John Deere cutting our very large lawn. (Well, part of it was the front meadow, and then there is the Black Locust meadow, and then the part that was actually a yard when other folks lived here.) I love cutting the grass. It is such an ‘instant gratification’ job.

I don’t plant a lot of vegetables – since I don’t cook. I have daughters and friends that let me have some of theirs from their gardens. I do love fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and green peppers. I got this in an email. I thought it was pretty interesting. A Tomato has four chambers and is red.

The heart has four chambers and is red.

All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

I love it when someone agrees with me that something I love is good for me.

Okay, let’s get back to Cameo.

I’m glad to see that the Christmas Quilt is going over well. Lots of you have ordered them.

I needed a Christmas Throw. Once I got it painted I took it over to Brooklyn, to my sister Sharon, to put together for me. I told her I wanted 3” green stripes on the inside and a 3” border of red around the outside. I think that should make it about the size I want – to throw over the back of a chair during the holidays and be able to pull it down to throw over my lap when I’m just sitting still reading. We keep the temperature nice and cool in our house in the winter, so if we’re not actually moving around we need a little something extra to stay nice and cozy.

August Special

Fighting Stallions

How about the new T4771 – Fighting Stallions and a white tote bag (P1492)? We'll put a special price of $10.40 on it. It would regularly be $11.60, so that saves you $1.20. Order under MSAug08.

Monthly Workshop

There will be One (2) workshops in the month of August:

August 21st – 11:00 AM– Let me know if you are coming!

We will be working on the MSAug08 – cost will be the cost of the MSAug08. Be sure to bring your own paints if you have them.

August 21st – 7:00 PM– Let me know if you are coming!

If anyone is going to come to the later class – you must let me know ahead of time. Other-wise I just turn off the lights and think I am done for the day. I will be teaching the same thing at this class as I did earlier.

Monthly Quilt Clubs

Since we have quite a few Quilt Paks in the Line now, I thought we should go over different ways to use the transfers that come in with the blank quilt blocks.

I know that some of you are not into quilting, but you like the sets of transfers.

Here are some things that you could do:

Instead of quilts you can make throw pillows with a different design on each side. That would give you six (6) different throw pillows. If you want to make twelve different throw pillows - or six - or nine -you just need to order extra sets of blank quilt blocks (P601-$5.25) to use for the back..

Instead of using the transfers on quilt blocks you can put the designs on shirts, flour sack towels (P327), mini flags (P322), tablecloths (P1220, P1221, P1222, P1223), a Wallhanging (P324), dresser scarves (P326), placemats (P1289), tote bags (P1492), pillow cases (P1595), pants, skirts, jackets. There are just so many different ways to use the transfers.

I like to put several designs on a single shirt. I buy men's shirts at yard sales and then I make it into a theme shirt. I might make a unicorn shirt, or a shirt of flower faces. I have a Christmas shirt with many different designs on it. How about a snowman outfit on a sweat suit?

There are just sooo many ways to use the Quilt Paks it boggles the mind.

I think this month I will do things a little different. I think sending you the cover pages of the two new quilts would let you show your customers a clearer picture of what they need to do the two (2) new quilts.

Transfer News

This month we have 2 New Transfers

Transfer #T4771 - Fighting Stallions

T4771 - Fighting Stallions

On the Stallions I painted the horses - then I took a dry brush and started just brushing in colors for the sunrise and for the ground. You don't have to do all of that - you can just paint the horses and let it go from there. You might want to make the horses other colors; they look great as palominos, too.

On the Purple Flowers – this is an old transfer that I was asked to bring back in. It was always one of my customer’s favorites. It’s easy to paint and is a great transfer to show people how and why and where to shadow and highlight. The transfer has a little pre-shading on it to make teaching a little easier.

Classes Being Held by Our Friends in Other Locations

All the instructor/dealers that I put in this section have a lot to teach and would like to teach all they know to you. So contact them and get started now.

We have a new craft store carrying our products. See us at ‘Crafty Folks’ right on the Alaskan Highway in Taylor, British Columbia. They will be running workshops at the store so you can learn right there how to use the products and they will have the products for you to buy. The address is 10501 99th St., Taylor, BC. Call and register for your class today (250-789-3720) or just go in and look around. Lisa will be glad to see you.

I know I have others in British Columbia that order from me – this store might be just what you’re looking for to pick up your products near you instead of waiting for them to come by Post.

We have a lot of dealer/instructors that have their own web sites now and more coming on-line all the time. When you’re on the Web just put Ginger’s Cameo in your search line and see how many you come up with. After you find them all – just check out the one nearest you and order. (You have to have your tax license # to get your discount from us to re-sell to others.)

We’re also on EBay and Amazon.

Final Words

I’ve been trying to hold down the price on shipping – but now I’m starting to lose money on it and prices are going up at the Post Office starting May 14th. (Prices at other shipping places have already gone up.) The increases they are talking about, on top of what I was already losing, means that starting May 1st, 2007 my shipping prices are going to go up.

Remember that shipping is figured on your retail total before your discount.

If you think I should give you a lower shipping amount on your order because it is a small order, you can call and we might be able to adjust it some. No promises though. I’m not in the business of making money on shipping, but sometimes the small orders are what off-set the big orders.

Well, I guess that's all for this month. Keep that those suggestions coming. I need every one of them. See you at a meeting.
